Music

General Music:

Students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade receive general music instruction once weekly. Students in our upper grades have the opportunity to learn an instrument as well. Each grade level explores music using common themes.

Strings:

Students in grades four through six may choose to participate in our strings program. These students receive weekly instruction on string instruments (violin, viola, cello, or double bass). In order for your child to participate in Strings, you need to provide an instrument. Local music stores offer trial-purchase and /or rental plans for these instruments. Fairfax County provides instruments at a reduced fee for students receiving free or reduced lunch. Method books will be provided free through FCPS. It generally takes one full school year for students to feel accomplished on a string instrument. For this reason, children enrolling in Strings are expected to remain in the program for the entire school year. Strings instruction in FCPS continues through Middle and High School and opens up a world of friendship, fun, and musical excellence for your child.

Band:

Students in grades five and six may choose to participate in our band program. Those students receive weekly instruction on string instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, percussion, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba).  In order for your child to participate in Band, you need to provide an instrument. Local music stores offer trial-purchase and /or rental plans for these instruments. Fairfax County provides instruments at a reduced fee for students receiving free or reduced lunch. Method books will be provided free through FCPS. Band instruction in FCPS continues through Middle and High School.
